• Note that the outer diameter of a 1/4" male NPT fitting is actually 0.54 inch. So, its outer diameter is about 0.29 inch larger than its “name.” NPT fittings are slightly tapered so the 0.54 inch diameter is the diameter in the middle of the threaded portion.
